Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies and browser storage we use on Japa Mala Counter, why we use them, and how you can control them.

Last updated: May 28, 2026

1What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They allow the site (or third-party services it uses) to recognise your browser across requests and sessions. Cookies are distinct from localStorage — localStorage is a browser storage area that we use only to save your counter progress locally on your device; that data never leaves your browser.

2Cookies We Use

  • _ga — Google Analytics. Distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_* — Google Analytics (GA4). Persists session state. Expires after 2 years.
  • _gid — Google Analytics. Distinguishes users. Expires after 24 hours.
  • cookie_consent — Set by us to remember your cookie preference (accepted or declined). Expires after 1 year.

3What We Do NOT Use Cookies For

  • We do not use advertising or targeting cookies.
  • We do not use cookies to build cross-site tracking profiles.
  • We do not sell cookie data to any third party.
  • Counter data (your japa count, mala rounds, elapsed time, mantra selection) is stored in localStorage only — not in cookies — and never leaves your device.

4Google Analytics

  • We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site — which pages are visited, how long users stay, and what devices they use.
  • Google Analytics sets the _ga, _ga_*, and _gid cookies listed above.
  • The data collected is aggregated and anonymous. We cannot identify individual users from this data.
  • Google may transfer this data to servers in the United States. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by declining cookies in our banner, or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

5Managing Your Cookie Preferences

  • When you first visit our site, a cookie consent banner will ask for your permission before any analytics cookies are set.
  • You can change your preference at any time using the button below.
  • You can also delete all cookies stored by this site through your browser settings (Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data).
  • Note: declining analytics cookies does not affect any site functionality — the counter works fully without them.

6Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy if we add or change the cookies we use. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date below and, where appropriate, notify you via the cookie consent banner.
